Primitive Pixels
Garage Studios
Sometimes in photography the creative process is more interesting than the final product. Such is the case with Adam Bronkhorst's exhibition 'Primitive Pixels' which charts a one-day mission to create a self-portrait using a primitive 1995 digital camera. The photos are presented in groups, demonstrating the technical choices undertaken at each step; from facial expression to lighting arrangements. By showing the finished portrait alongside the mistakes and experiments undertaken along the way, Bronkhorst succeeds in encouraging us to think about photography as a process, not just an end result. The exhibition is also an interesting voyage through the history of digital photography, the technicalities of a day's photoshoot, and a photographer's own personal journey of self-representation.
